Updated: Feb 12
In Greek mythology a Siren is a winged woman or creature whose beautiful singing put a spell on anyone within her voices grasp and this siren does the same thing. Recently, I met this artist at an open mic and was quickly intrigued by her aura. We made eye contact a couple times and then eventually engaged in conversation but her music, goals, relationships and more. Walk us through your background- Tell us more about you and your music
I moved to Miami 6 years ago for school. I started writing music as my own form of therapy when I felt my relationship was falling apart and never stopped. I've always loved singing and I started recording and sharing my work in early 2019. My sound favors contemporary R&B, but I'm keeping what I create open to any genre. I'll create anything I enjoy listening to, regardless of where it fits.
So, for those who don't know? Why the name Siren?
When I was a kid I was obsessed with Ariel (the little mermaid). I always loved swimming and the ocean. It’s one of the reasons I moved to Miami. I dyed my hair blue three years ago and it’s how people recognize me now. I became my own version of Ariel. Sirens are mythological creatures in Greek mythology that lured in sailors with their voice. Sirens are also alarms, quite literally. They create sound and so I chose the name Siren. I think it’s fitting.
What inspires you?
As of late, I am most inspired by watching local artists grow and succeed. The last few months have been great for networking and learning from other artists living in Miami-Dade. They inspire me daily to keep creating and performing.
What are some of the obstacles you've faced and how has it made you better?
I've found it difficult to collaborate with others on personal projects. I feel like I've met so many artist, engineers, and producers that would like to work with me, but it's so difficult to actually make it happen. This has really pushed me to use my skills and become more independent. I've also become better at just putting my work out over and over and over until someone bites.
What do you think makes your music different from other artist?
My music extremely personal to me and I'm not afraid to try any sound that I'm interested in at the time. The words are genuine and speak to my inner self more than anything. Still, I always hope that others can relate to my words as well.
What is your 5 year plan for your music and for yourself?
Right now, I'm focusing on creating and perfecting Siren as a brand. I am working on creating visuals for my music at the moment and coordinating my own sets. In the future, I will be performing more of my own sets and working with a live band to perform and around Florida.
What do you want people to takeaway from your music?
I want people to feel at peace and to feel understood.
Where can people find your music?
My music is available on all streaming platforms under "Siren."
